No. Left has no persistent background processes. Widgets are rendered by iOS on a schedule controlled by the system — Left doesn't run in the background between refreshes. Battery impact is negligible.
When creating or editing an event in Left, tap the Repeat option and choose your recurrence — daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly. The countdown resets automatically after each occurrence.
Yes — Left supports joint countdowns with friends. Both people need a Left account. Go to the Friends section, add your friend by username, and then create a shared event together. You'll both see the same countdown.
Left uses an estimate based on age, gender, country, and optional health and activity factors. You can adjust your lifespan settings in the app. See the life expectancy calculator for the methodology.
Both of you need to be signed into a Left account. Send a friend request by username from the Friends section, and have them accept it. Joint countdowns and Shared Since become available once you're friends.
Left Wallpaper updates through Apple Shortcuts. Open the Shortcuts app and confirm the Update Left Wallpaper automation is enabled. iOS may delay automations when the device is hot or in Low Power Mode.
Yes. Time Left, over 20 widgets, You, Wallpaper, Friends, Time Between, games, and other core tools are free forever.
See the full Home Screen widget guide for screenshots.
For StandBy: long-press a widget stack while in StandBy, tap +, and add Left. See the StandBy guide.
Left calculates time from the current moment to the target date in your local time zone. The countdown updates each time the widget refreshes — typically every 15–30 minutes, with an immediate refresh when you open the app.
Yes. When editing a widget (long-press → Edit Widget), you can choose the display style — days only, days and hours, full breakdown, or percentage. The available options depend on the widget size.
The percentage view shows how much of a time period has elapsed. For example, if you're tracking the year, it shows what percentage of the year has passed. For a countdown event, it shows how much of the time between creation and the target date has elapsed.
iOS manages widget refresh budgets to protect battery. Opening Left refreshes all widgets immediately. Otherwise, the system schedules refreshes roughly every 15–30 minutes. This is an iOS constraint that applies to all apps.
Open the Left app once to force a refresh. If the widget still shows a stale date, remove and re-add it — this resets the widget's data connection to Left.
iOS does not allow Home Screen widgets to display live seconds — they can only update periodically. Lock Screen widgets also follow this limit. For a live second-by-second countdown, open the Left app directly.
Time Left, over 20 widgets, You, Wallpaper, Friends, Time Between, games, and other core tools are free forever. Left Premium unlocks deeper ways to track habits, streaks, special dates, and your day.
Open Left → Settings → Restore Purchases. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you used for the subscription or lifetime purchase.
Yes. Left Premium is tied to your Apple ID, not a single device. On any device signed into the same Apple ID, tap Restore Purchases in Left's Settings to unlock Premium features.
Lifetime purchases may be eligible for Family Sharing depending on Apple's purchase settings. Make sure Family Sharing is enabled in your Apple ID settings and that "Share Purchases" is turned on for your family group.
Sign into the same Apple ID and iCloud account on your new device, then install Left. On first launch, Left will sync your events and habits from iCloud automatically. This may take a moment depending on your connection speed.
Your events are stored in iCloud if sync is enabled, which serves as an automatic backup across all your devices. There is no manual export feature at this time. If iCloud sync is off, data lives only on your device.
Yes. Left works on-device without iCloud. You can use the core app without cross-device sync. Shared features use your free Left account, and iCloud is needed for automatic sync between Apple devices.
