Business days calculator
Count the exact number of working days (Monday–Friday) between any two dates — no weekends included.
What counts as a business day?
This calculator defines business days as Monday through Friday, excluding Saturdays and Sundays. It does not account for public holidays, which vary by country and region — you'll need to subtract those manually based on your location.
How it's calculated
The algorithm walks day by day from the start date to the end date and increments a counter for every weekday it encounters. This gives an exact count rather than the approximate formula (total days × 5/7), which can be off by one or two days near week boundaries.
The start date is included in the count; the end date is not (similar to how you'd count working days on a calendar — "from Monday to Monday" is 5 days, not 6).
Common uses
- Legal & contract deadlines — "within 30 business days" is a common contract clause
- Shipping & delivery estimates — most couriers quote business day ETAs
- Project planning — convert total calendar days into working days for accurate estimates
- Notice periods — employment and tenancy notice periods are often expressed in business days
Public holidays
To account for public holidays, subtract them from the result. For example, if you have 22 business days but there are 2 public holidays in that range, the effective working days are 20. The exact holidays depend on your country — use a public holiday calendar for your region.
